Simple Toponymy Generator Help
Simple Toponymy Generator turns lexicon entries into terrain-aware compound place names.
Best For
- Creating tundra, farmland, forest, desert, mountain, and biome-specific naming pools.
- Using existing translated lexicon words instead of hand-entering every name element.
- Producing editable generated toponymy JSON for later map or worldbuilding workflows.
Typical Workflow
- Upload a compatible lexicon export.
- Choose a preset terrain set or import a saved toponymy config JSON.
- Edit first-element and second-element search terms for a terrain category.
- Select matching lexicon words from the translation search results, or add custom elements.
- Choose a join algorithm, generate names, manually correct outputs, and export generated JSON.
Accepted Inputs
- VulgarLang, Mundifex, or Diachron-compatible lexicon files.
- Saved mundifex.simple-toponymy-config JSON.
- Optional saved mundifex.simple-toponymy-output JSON for continued correction.
Outputs
- Toponymy config JSON with terrain categories, search terms, and selected elements.
- Generated toponymy JSON with source elements, algorithm, generated form, and corrected final name.
Limits And Access
- Browser-only and deterministic; no names are saved to your account.
- Preset categories are starter search prompts, not authoritative linguistic analysis.
- The tool targets concatenative systems; non-concatenative or heavily inflected place names require manual correction.
Troubleshooting
- If no matches appear, broaden the search terms or check that translations are present in the lexicon.
- If generated names look too mechanical, try overlap, vowel coalescence, or boundary trim, then correct final names before export.
- If imported config loads but has no matches, the saved config may already contain selected elements and can still generate without the original lexicon.
